Fargo, ND (#2)

We have a hard time believing it's July in Fargo.  The weather is beautiful - in the low 70's yesterday and the humidity is not too bad.  Awesome weather!

Yesterday was gorgeous and we had several different activities.  We kind of split up and did our own thing.  After a trip to the bagel shop by Adrian and me, we had breakfast and then went our separate ways.  Vi went with Melanie and Michelle to do lunch with Karen and I ran some errands.  My trip involved going over to NDSU and checking out the Germans from Russia exhibit they have in their library.  Wouldn't you know it, it was closed for three days.  Everyone involved in the exhibit was over at Bismarck where the Germans from Russia Society was having their convention this weekend. Luckily, Wyatt, one of the curators, had not left yet and he showed me around and I was able to purchase a book (The German-Russians (in words and pictures).  The library has a section devoted to the story of the G-R.  Very interesting.   Afterwards, I went over to a local nine-hole golf course and was able to get in a round.  Unusual that it was an slow time and I played alone and didn't catch up to anyone until #8.  Nice course and in good shape. At least the golf clubs played a different role than just being ballast in Zelda's trunk.

Afterwards, I gassed up at Costco and had the car washed (there were several layers of dirt and bugs). Came back home (Adrian and Michelle's) and waited for Vi and Michelle to return.  They had a fun lunch with much conversation and then did some shopping.  Vi and I went over to Karen's new coop (new to both her and the community).  She has a beautiful place and she's really happy with it.  It's a corner unit and has plenty of light.  During our visit, we heard from Wanda and Dave that they had arrived in Fargo.  We'll get to see them today over lunch in Dilworth, MN.

In the evening Ken suggested that we all meet at Bear Creek Winery.  Local North Dakota wines in a forty-acre setting along Bear Creek.  They've converted an old barn and the setting was inside and outside.  With the awesome weather, it was really nice to sit outside and enjoy conversation and stories. It's kind of a private enterprise, but they open it to the public three days a week.  The local wine was excellent, and we tried different varieties.  There's a golf course surrounding the barn and it's also private.  Ken knew the owner (I think he knows or is aware of half the people in the state).  Fun time. Afterwards, we went to a local Cork and Cleaver for some lavosh (look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls).

All in all, it was a great (there's that word again).  Looking forward to today with lunch in MN and then tonight is the Meet n Greet at Karen's complex.  Sandy is due in this afternoon and Ryan arrived last night at midnight from North Carolina.  He's Michelle and Adrian's oldest son and works in the Research Triangle (after having just graduated from University of Nebraska).

Enough for now.
